Testing Content in Meta Description Only

Can a page be cited in AI Search Engines from text only found within the meta description?

The purpose of this page is to test that hypothesis. There is a unique word only found in the description of this page. I will test to see if searching for that term within all the major AI search engines (ChatGPT, Gemini, Google AIO and AI Mode, Perplexity, Grok, Copilot, Meta AI, and Claude.)

In October 2023, I observed this behavior within Google AIO (SGE at the time). A snippet of text was being highlighted in the SGE result with a citation to a URL. That snippet of text didn't exist anywhere on the page itself, but was only within the meta description. I messaged Lily Ray on Twitter/X to share the scenario, and she validated what I was seeing.

Now let's put it to the test!
